We
are global warming solutions. We are a force for change, a force that
can step outside the old energy paradigm to build the future and
present that we know is possible. This program provides a community and
a loose structure, through a series of summer projects, to support that
philosophy. Participants can choose
the projects they want to focus on during the summer, but will
ultimately engage in every initiative through communication with peers.
At the end of the summer, participants will be able to
holistically apply the many models and
strategies we develop in their own
communities, and collaborate with fellow activists from across the
country.
In the Summer of Solutions we will engage with many communities around the Twin Cities and foster a strong network of new leaders around the country. We will use our existing coalitions and community organizing experience to advance innovative models for climate action and influence policy decisions that complement our work. With the help of mentors who know the situation on the ground and the support of other participants like yourself, you’ll get to shape and engage the course of the Summer of Solutions as you work in it. You get to choose your own commitments, identify the help, skills, and connections you need to make, and then together we’ll figure out how you can do the same when you leave the Summer of Solutions in your own community.
Given the intensive nature of the program, the Summer of Solutions requires your active participation. It’s okay if you need to take a week off in the middle of the program for a vacation, but otherwise consistent participation is crucial. It is particularly important to attend all of the first two weeks and exit week (July 25-August 1).
